A Gym with a Dress Code - Modesty at the Gym

There was a report on the news caught my attention..a report about a gym that requires that people dress modestly...and in spite of this, or because of it, they are doing great business, and hoping to develop a chain of gyms in other parts of the country.

This is a gym called "Lord's Gym" that operates with what they describe as "Christian principles". The teachings of Christ in the Bible teach that lust is a sin, and in many gyms where woman and men dress with as little as possible, this can be a problem for those who are trying to live as Christ would want them to.

This seems like it would conflict with the whole idea of going to the gym...aren't we exercising to improve how our bodies look, and if so, why hide it? This is a conflict between human principles and Godly principles that each will have to work out between themselves and God.

As for me, I am a Christian and love the idea...to me, going to the gym or exercising anywhere, is to improve health, not just looks. I am not interested in "checking out" the bodies around me, I'm more interested in the person inside the body, and keeping the body healthy by keeping weight in check and the circulatory system in great shape.

I'm looking forward to seeing how popular this concept becomes!

  1. It will be a great job if they really able to do this great job that develop a chain of gyms in other parts of the country.

  2. Hm, in all my years at the gym (just the plain old 24 Hour Fitness), I don't think I've ever seen anyone improperly dressed. I suppose it happens though.

  4. We join a gym to get our body in shape. I dont understand why there should be any issues of human principles and Godly principles. The main purpose of joining a gym should be exercising to improve our bodies look not all this."Christian principles" It may look interesting but i think its quite discouraging for one who want to join a gym.

  5. A very interesting concept. I love your idea about appreciating the person within the body and not just the outer shell as our culture often teaches.

    Thanks for your great thoughts!

  6. Hi Linz & Kristan,

Linz, I think it depends upon where you go, or how sensitive a person is to seeing people who dress in a way that is revealing...what is revealing to one may not be so to another.

Kristan, I understand where you are coming from, and it's nice to look nice. I can say honestly that I don't frequent a gym, but exercise at home or walking, and it is for health benefits first, appearance second, but try to be modest about how I dress, wherever I am.

    God bless,
